Set on the hill above the New Port, Agios Nikolaos Thalassinos is closely connected to the island’s maritime heritage and to Saint Nicholas as the protector of seafarers. Historical evidence shows that a church dedicated to Saint Nicholas existed here before the 19th century, while the present church dates to 1931.
The churchyard is also one of the most beautiful viewpoints in town. From here, visitors can look across the rooftops, harbour and sea, with the distinctive clock tower forming one of the classic images of Skiathos.
ONE SKIATHOS EDITOR’S NOTE
We recommend walking up to Saint Nicholas while exploring Skiathos Town. The climb is worth it for the view alone, especially when you want to see the harbour and rooftops from above.
