Held in honour of Saint George, traditionally associated with horsemen and shepherds, the annual horse races are one of Skiathos’ distinctive local celebrations.
Local riders gather near the Church of Agios Georgios and race their horses towards the lakeside area near Skiathos Airport. More than a competition, the event brings together local tradition, community and celebration, with the winning rider receiving a trophy and symbolic prize.
